As we approach the final stretch, excitement is building for the upcoming performances of “Twelfth Night” at Cambridge Riverside on 13 and 14 July ! Our talented cast is rehearsing this week and next, getting familiar with our charming little amphitheatre and perfecting their quick costume changes without a traditional dressing room.
Adding to the excitement, four young Riversiders are joining the cast. Felicia (aged 10), Sasha (aged 9), and Yujoon (aged 10) will showcase their versatility by taking on multiple roles, including sailors in the shipwreck, attendants at Duke Orsino’s court and lively revellers.

We also have a special treat lined up before the play begins. The amazingly talented young violinist Alicia Cheng, Felicia’s older sister, will perform a musical prelude. At just 14, Alicia is already a Grade 8 standard violinist and pianist, holds an ARSM diploma for piano from the Royal School of Music and is preparing for Trinity College London’s ATCL performance diploma. Alicia is thrilled to be part of the Shakespeare event. “I’ve been playing since I was five. I really enjoy playing music,” she shares.
Gill Gallant, who will portray both Olivia and her uncle, Sir Toby Belch, is equally excited about the involvement of younger community members. “It’s wonderful to have some of our young neighbours involved in the production,” says Gill. “We’re hoping lots of families will come along to enjoy the play. As it’s been shortened, it’s a great way to introduce children to Shakespeare, and it’ll be a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Also, the play is all about disguise, so we’d love to see any children in the audience wearing their favourite costumes or fancy dress!”
