The forecasters may have predicted thunderstorms, but that didn’t deter the hardy folk of Cambridge Riverside from gathering for the first boules event of the summer. Held on the lush Infinity Lawn gardens, the afternoon was marked by camaraderie, friendly competition and the resilient spirit of our community.
Under the capable supervision of our umpire, Alastair, with his trusty tape-measure in hand to ensure fair play and settle any disputes, the event welcomed participants of all skill levels. From total novices eager to learn the game to seasoned enthusiasts ready to showcase their expertise, the event was a melting pot of diverse talents and an opportunity both to meet new neighbours and to catch up with old friends.
The clang of the boules and the occasional cheer from team mates and spectators created a lively atmosphere. Despite the looming threat of rain, we managed to enjoy several matches before the dark clouds finally gathered, and everyone departed in high spirits.
Looking ahead, the next boules event is scheduled for the last Sunday of June, when we will be hoping for even better weather. The inaugural event has set a wonderful precedent, demonstrating that even the threat of thunderstorms can’t deter the Cambridge Riverside community from coming together for fun and fellowship.
So, mark your calendars and join us next month for another round of boules.
