Summer jazz at Riverside

We're sharing a few photos from our recent Summer Jazz afternoon – a lovely way to spend a warm summer afternoon together at Cambridge Riverside.
Residents enjoyed an entertaining mix of relaxed jazz standards and familiar popular tunes, performed by two outstanding local musicians. Pianist Robin Phillips, well known across Cambridge for leading bands, teaching and performing at venues including the Gonville Hotel and De Luca, was joined by bassist Malcolm Creese, who was a regular member of the John Dankworth and Cleo Laine touring bands and, until 2024, Artistic Director of the Swaledale Festival.
We also had a special treat when saxophonist Sebastian Scotney joined Robin and Malcolm for three numbers. Sebastian, a good friend of both musicians, helped arrange the afternoon together with his partner and Riverside resident, Monika Thomas.
Many thanks also to Monika for providing some very welcome Pimm's, which was much appreciated on a warm afternoon. Thanks too to Gill for helping organise the event, to Ken for mastering the setup of our new gazebo, to Simon for taking some great photos and to everyone else who lent a hand, especially in helping to tidy everything away.
It was another enjoyable community event and we hope everyone who came along had as much fun listening as the musicians clearly had playing...and Simon and Gill had dancing! We look forward to the next one.
