'Twelfth Night'
- a magical event
On 13 and 14 July 2024, a truly memorable event unfolded at Cambridge Riverside: our very own production of Twelfth Night, brought to life by residents Gill and Simon Gallant.
Cambridge Riverside is fortunate to feature a unique gem—an amphitheatre nestled within Midsummer Lawn. Inspired by this special space, Gill and Simon envisioned a theatrical experience that culminated in a remarkable adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy. Performed for residents, friends, and families, the production was abridged and restructured to suit a four-actor cast, with Gill and three others seamlessly portraying 11 different characters.
This was a true community effort, showcasing the diverse talents of many Riversiders. Younger residents joined the cast as attendants, sailors and revellers, and also provided musical entertainment. Others contributed to everything from stage management, prompting and costume design to publicity and fundraising. Even our managing agent, Encore, played a part, with volunteers assisting as event stewards.
Despite the unpredictable British summer, the weather cooperated just enough to allow for two wonderful performances for residents over the weekend.
