The Northern Lights, a natural wonder usually associated with more northerly latitudes, made a rare visit to our beautiful city last night, painting the darkness with vibrant hues of green and purple and pink. Although best viewed in areas with minimal light pollution, they were visible even over Midsummer Common, though the best way to appreciate them was by taking photographs, which captured more splendour than was visible to the naked eye.
If you missed out fear not, for tonight promises another opportunity to behold this breath-taking phenomenon. The best viewing hours are expected to be between 10 pm and 2 am. But dress warmly – it was pretty chilly on the towpath last night!
