If you’re on the lookout for an independent local café, then Ellimatta is well worth a visit, and it comes with a unique selling point—second-hand vinyl records!
Tucked away on Victoria Avenue, opposite Waller the butcher, this delightful spot has actually been there since July 2024, but it was new to me and still feels like a well-kept secret. Run by an Australian couple, it offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere just a pleasant stroll along the river.
I discovered Ellimatta when I took refuge from the rain. What I found was a cosy retreat where I enjoyed a really good decaf coffee and an individual (and sensibly priced) lemon polenta cake. I went back to sample the lunch menu, when I had the most wonderful homemade bean and vegetable soup. It was busy, so I could peer at what others were having. The salad bowls also looked tempting, all made freshly and a bit different. There’s also a wide range of sandwiches, though they looked a bit heavy on the bread for my liking.
The other appealing thing for me was the playlist, both gentle and familiar. And for those who appreciate music beyond the digital age, check out the selection of vinyl records for sale. I had a little browse through the collection—a trip down memory lane, for sure.
There’s one slight drawback: the seating consists entirely of stools and benching, so it’s not a place for long, leisurely lounging. However, if you’re after great coffee, fresh food and a touch of musical nostalgia, Ellimatta is definitely a spot to check out.
Thank you - will definitely check it out.
