Art installations

Cambridge Riverside is home to two art installations, 'The Barnwell Sentence' and 'Playful Seating', both of which nod to our site's history as the location of Brunswick School.

The Barnwell Sentence

On a daily basis, most of us walk past the big mural at the top of Kingsley Walk, referring to it fondly as ‘The Whale Wall’ and sometimes using it as a landmark to direct visitors to the development. The whale wall is in fact called ‘The Barnwell Sentence’ and was specifically commissioned by Berkeley Homes for this development, and produced by Lucy Skaer.

Playful Seating

The chair theme of the ‘Barnwell Sentence’ is continued in the other public art sculpture on this site: 'Playful Seating for Midsummer Lawn' by artist James Hopkins. James Hopkins is a British artist, born in 1976, who creates sculptures transforming everyday objects into something completely unexpected. Distorted solid cast bronze benches have been placed around a mirror-finished stainless steel cylinder.
